Thyroid

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It plays a crucial role in regulating the body s metabolism, growth, and development. The thyroid produces hormones, primarily thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which are responsible for controlling the rate at which cells convert nutrients into energy. These hormones also help regulate body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. The thyroid gland is controlled by the pituitary gland, which releases thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) to signal the thyroid to produce and release its hormones. Dysfunction of the thyroid can lead to various health issues, including hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). Symptoms of thyroid disorders can vary but may include fatigue, weight changes, mood swings, hair loss, and difficulty regulating body temperature. Proper diagnosis and treatment are essential for maintaining optimal thyroid function and overall health.
